Genesis 1:2, “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Being a spiritual leader means to govern others while remaining under the leadership and influence of the Spirit of God. Two areas of awareness are required in order to lead others spiritually. First, we must be aware of our need for the help and assistance of the Holy Spirit. Then, we must be conscious of the Spirit’s help when it is given, allowing Him to do the work we are unable to. Jesus promised to be with us, “even to the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20). How would this be possible? By the presence and power of the Spirit of God!
Notice three powerful actions of the Holy Spirit of God:
The Spirit of God gives order, beauty, and functionality to that which is without form and void.
The third sentence of the Bible describes the first recorded action of the Spirit of God. Shortly after God’s utterance of simple words to create the vast =
universe, “it was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep” (Genesis 1:1). God spoke everything into existence, but it was void until the Spirit brought magnificence and intricate wonder to it by His influence. Without submission to the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we will experience emptiness, lack of order, and darkness. When we obey His divine impulses, He fills us with Himself, directs us along God’s path, and imparts light to our souls.
The Spirit of God breathes life into man, and transforms him into theimage of Jesus Christ.
Sin ruined the image and likeness of God in man after the incident in the Garden of Eden, so again God sent the influence of His Spirit. God forms. Then sin deforms. Finally, Christ transforms. We who are born again by the Spirit of God have a constant transformation taking place on the inside. The Holy Spirit first gives life, but He is far from finished at that point! His next mission is to change our minds into the mind of Christ, our emotions into the emotions of Christ, and our life into the very life of Jesus Christ. It isn’t our intellect, personality, or charisma that gives our lives effectiveness; it’s the Spirit! Are you submitted to His transforming influence in your life?
The Spirit of God strives with humanity through men who are empowered by Him.
One man or woman can make a huge difference if they have the power of the Holy Spirit upon them. Our day is a lot like the days of the book of Judges, where “every man did that which is right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). God’s answer for that day is identical to God’s answer for our day: to empower men and use them to influence people, drawing them close to God. God seeks for willing vessels to represent Him to those who are lost in sin, and present Him to Christians who are entangled in snares of the enemy. God’s Spirit will not always strive with man, but His desire is for us to follow those He has placed over us.
The Spirit of God gives order and beauty to chaos, breathes transforming life into man, empowers men to make a difference, and enables us to face the impossible in order for us to know that it is “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord” (Zechariah 4:6). There would be no hope for children, grandchildren, and families without a people, and a church, and a nation of whom it can be said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon thee.” We could see a Holy Ghost revival if we would get in a right relationship with the Holy Spirit of God.
